Answers

1)

Which emulation(s) are supported by DCS/CE?

DynaComm Connectivity Series for Windows CE (DCS/CE) emulations include ADDS VP/60, ANSI-BBS (with SCO ANSI extensions), AT&T 4425, AT&T 605/705, Digital VT-Series, TN3270, TN5250, Tandem 6530, TeleVideo 925/950 and Wyse 50/60.

2)

Is printing supported?

DCS/CE 2.0 does not support printing. Printing support is currently dependent upon the print drivers that are available on individual Windows CE-powered devices. DCS/CE 3.0 does support printing.

3)

What file transfer protocols are supported?

XYModem, IND$FILE, Kermit and IXF

4)

Is color supported?

Yes.

5)

On which processors is DCS/CE supported?

DCS/CE 2.0 supports the MIPS and SH3 processors only. DCS/CE 3.0 supports additional processors.

6)

How is DCS/CE loaded?

DCS/CE follows the Microsoft installation procedures required for Windows CE logo certification. DCS/CE is shipped electronically or on diskette and is initially installed onto your companion desktop or laptop PC. If your Windows CE-powered device is connected at the time of installation, DCS/CE will be automatically installed onto the device. If a connection does not exist at the time of installation, DCS/CE will be automatically installed the next time a connection is made.

7)

How can I purchase DCS/CE?

DCS/CE 2.0 is no longer available for purchase. However, DCS/CE 3.0 can be purchased via the FutureSoft Web site at www.futuresoft.com or through a FutureSoft Account Manager at (800) 989-8908 or (281) 496-9400.

8)

How can I decrease the DCS/CD footprint on my Windows CE-powered device?

Below is a table showing the names of files that may be deleted when the corresponding connector or emulator is not required. Deleting unnecessary files will free up memory for other applications.

CONNECTORS
Connector Not Required Delete THIS File MIPS* SH3*
Direct Serial comdir.con 47,616 41,984
Modem comtapi.con 85,504 77,824

EMULATIONS
Emulation Not Required Delete THIS File MIPS* SH3*
ADDS VP/60 addsvp60.emu 54,272 44,544
AT&T 605/705 att605.emu 224,768 173,056
TeleVideo 925/950 tv950.emu 163,840 139,776
VT-Series and AT&T 605
(see note 2 below)
vtseries.dll 1404,384 109,056
VT-Series vt420.emu 160,768 132,096
Wyse 50/60 wyse.emu 156,672 126,464

Notes:

  1. ANSI-BBS is the default emulator. As such, this file should NOT be deleted.
  2. The VT-Series and AT&T 605 emulation file (vtseries.dll) can be deleted ONLY if the VT-Series AND AT&T 605 emulations are not needed. This file is used by both the VT-Series and AT&T 605 emulations.
  3. With only the ANSI emulation and the Telnet connector installed, the smallest achievable product size is:
    • MIPS CPU: 1,184,508 bytes
    • SH3 CPU: 1,007,868 bytes

NOTE:  The MFCCE20.DLL file must be present for DCS/CE to operate. If it is not already installed on your device, the DCS/CE installation program automatically installs it. The file size is:

  • MIPS CPU: 517,632 bytes
  • SH3 CPU: 364,544 bytes

What are the sizes of the DCS/CE core product and Client Options?

Module MIPS CPU* SH3 CPU*
DCS/CE Core Product 2,608,380 2,174,716

Tandem 6530 Client Option** 300,032 227,328
AT&T 4425 Client Option** 98,304 78,336

*File size in bytes.
**The DCS/CE core product must be installed to utilize any of the Client Options.

I recieved an invalid serial number message when I entered the provided serial number at the prompt.

When entering the serial number during installation into the Windows CE-powered device, you MUST type the dashes between the groups of numbers.
