New and Enhanced Features Added in Version 3.62 ================================================== This version of DynaComm/Elite does not add any new or enhanced features. The purpose of this release is to simply resolve a number of customer reported defects. 2. New and Enhanced Features Added in Version 3.61 ================================================== The following is a list of the new or enhanced features in version 3.61 of DynaComm/Elite. Enhanced Hotspot Editor Enhanced Toolbar Editor New Script Functions EXFLDATTR and FLDNUM API for Hayes Dialer Return Codes Enhanced Hotspot Editor ----------------------- The Hotspot Editor now allows an alternate method of creating hotspot buttons. Previously, you could not include spaces as a hotspot character, but now if you select the advanced method for finding hotspot strings, you can include spaces at the beginning of the hotspot characters or include spaces within the hotspot string. Hotspots can contain any printable character, and if you have selected the advanced method for creating hotspots, hotspots can also contain spaces. DynaComm/Elite now has a higher maximum number of hotspots. You can configure up to 350 hotspots. Also, DynaComm/Elite allows a greater number of characters in a hotspot string. The maximum number of characters is based on the width of the session screen for the terminal mode (80 or 132 characters). DynaComm/Elite now allows you to assign position arguments to a hotspot. When you assign position arguments to a hotspot, DynaComm/Elite will only create a hotspot from the text when the first character of the hotspot text is in the row and column that you define. Enhanced Toolbar Editor ----------------------- The Toolbar Editor allows you to scroll the toolbar from left to right. Two New Script Functions: EXFLDATTR and FLDNUM ---------------------------------------------- Function: EXFLDATTR Purpose: Given a field number in a session, and optionally, a window handle, EXFLDATTR returns the attributes and the extended field attributes for the field. Function: FLDNUM Purpose: Given the row and column coordinates of a point, FLDNUM returns the field number of the point relative to the home position of the session. API for Dialer Return Codes --------------------------- DynaComm/Elite now includes a new API (Application Programming Interface). This API allows programmers, who create applications which drive or monitor DynaComm/Elite, to access the AdaptAsync and AutoSync dialers and their status. This function needs to be defined in include (*.H) file as: int WINAPI GetDialStatus(); This function will return the following values: 0 - Dial 1 - No status 2 - Dialing 6 - User aborted dialing 7 - Invalid command 8 - Busy 9 - Bad modem / No response from modem 10 - No answer 11 - No dial tone 12 - No carrier 14 - Internal error 15 - Did not recognize response 16 - Call timer expire 3. New and Enhanced Features Added in Version 3.60 ================================================== The following is a list of the new or enhanced features that have been added to version 3.60 of DynaComm/Elite. * Support for up to 15 concurrent PC-to-host sessions * Additional status information about printer session * Configurable time-out for session inactivity * New AdaptAsync and Hayes AutoSync AutoDialers (3270 and APPC) * AT&T SNA for MP-RAS Gateway Link support for the 3270 emulation * SNA Server Link support for the APPC emulation * Drag-and-Drop Toolbar Editor * Hide and Unhide Menu Bar option * Keyboard Mapping and Layout for the IBM ThinkPad * Support of custom printer fonts for printer sessions * File transfer gauge displays progress in 1024 byte increments * Comments field in the Edit Transfer Batch dialog box * Script to print PROFS screens * Direct access to the online Script Reference * Decimal count display for the DISOSS file transfer progress * Encryption of the AdaptSNA LAN Gateway Global password * Selectable session LUs for the SNA Server Link * Support for Microsoft WOSA HLLAPI * Inclusion of the client files for Microsoft SNA Server * Customizable code page support for file transfers * Ability to add scripts directly to the script menu * Various enhancements to the script engine Support for up to 15 Concurrent PC-to-host Sessions --------------------------------------------------- DynaComm/Elite supports an increased number of concurrent PC-to-host sessions. With version 3.60, the product now supports up to 15 sessions, except for the following physical links: Coax, AdaptSNA LAN Gateway, AdaptAsync, and AdaptX25, which are limited to five sessions because of the restrictions imposed by the devices for the links. Previously, all links had a maximum of five sessions. The Session Profile list box in the 3270 Communications Settings dialog box is now scrollable to allow for the 15 sessions that you can configure. To configure a session, double-click on the session information, and the Session Profile dialog box will display. With a maximum of two concurrent printer sessions, you can configure any combination of screen and printer sessions. Additional Printer Session Status Information --------------------------------------------- DynaComm/Elite now provides additional information regarding active host printer sessions. Information, such as Link State, Session State, Printing Status, and Characters Received, is supplied and provides a runtime indication of the status of a host print job. DynaComm/Elite displays the status information in a printer session child window. You can view the status by double-clicking the printer session icon. The following describes the available states shown on the printer session child window: Link State: Inactive The connection to the host has not been established. SNA ACTPU has not been received. Active The connection to the host has been established. SNA ACTPU has been received. Session State: Inactive The printer session has not received an ACTLU from the host. Active The printer session has received an ACTLU from the host but no SNA Bind. Bound The print session has received a SNA Bind from the host. Printing Status: Idle The printer session is ready to receive data and is currently idle. Receiving The printer session is actively receiving data or has received data, but has not received an SNA Unbind or End Bracket indication. Characters Received: The value indicates the number of characters received. DynaComm/Elite updates the indicator in 1024 byte increments. Configurable Session Inactivity Timer ------------------------------------- The new session inactivity timers allow DynaComm/Elite to disconnect any screen session that has remained inactive for an amount of time, that you can specify. Each session can have its own timer. The timers are available for all link types, but are the most useful when the connection is through a phone line. The timers can help prevent needless line charges. Also, you may find the timers useful when DynaComm/Elite is connected to LAN gateways, which use session pooling, and in which many users share sessions. The new configuration option is located in the Advanced Screen Profile dialog box. A timer can monitor the keyboard, the link, or both, and when the timer is about to disconnect a session, it can alert you audibly of the impending disconnection. New AdaptAsync and Hayes AutoSync AutoDialer (3270 and APPC) ------------------------------------------------------------ DynaComm/Elite now includes new link configuration dialogs and a new AutoDialer for the AdaptAsync and Hayes AutoSync links. The new features include selectable modem types, multiple number support, customizable modem settings, and automated redial support. The AutoDialer also includes diagnostic monitoring and selectable call prefixes. The new dialer performs better and does not have the problems associated with the script based dialer in previous versions of DynaComm/Elite. AT&T SNA for MP-RAS Gateway Link Support for 3270 Emulation ------------------------------------------------------------ DynaComm/Elite now includes physical link support for AT&T's SNA for MP-RAS Gateway as a 3270 emulation. This gateway does not support a session as an APPC emulation. DynaComm/Elite's Setup program copies the AT&T Client Setup program to DynaComm/Elite's destination directory. You must then run the AT&T Client Setup to install the client support files. SNA Server Link Support for APPC Emulation ------------------------------------------ DynaComm/Elite’s APPC emulation may now establish APPC sessions via Microsoft's SNA Server. The APPC Communications Settings dialog box now contains a new Physical Link option which allows you to select the newly supported link type. With this link, the SNA server performs all of the APPC session configuration, allowing for centralized APPC session configuration and management. You are not required to make any configuration selections. The link supports both peer-to-peer and peer-to-host APPC sessions. Drag-and-Drop Toolbar Editor ---------------------------- DynaComm/Elite’s toolbar is now customizable with the Toolbar Editor. The Toolbar Editor allows you to select a menu option, associate it with the toolbar, and drag the button to a proxy toolbar area in the Editor. To remove a button, simply drag the button off of the toolbar in the Editor. A toolbar button can provide the functionality of almost any option in DynaComm/Elite’s menus. Additionally, a button can launch scripts, send text to a remote system, and execute host commands. The Toolbar Editor saves the toolbar’s settings to files with the BAR extension. You can then attach toolbar (represented by a BAR file) to a session window with the Window Preferences option, or you can distribute configured toolbars to others. Hide/Unhide Menu Bar Option --------------------------- DynaComm/Elite's menu bar is now hideable. The option is on the application system menu (the area in the upper left corner of DynaComm/Elite's main window). After you select the Hide Menu option, the menu bar disappears, and the Hide Menu option becomes the Unhide Menu option. Selecting the Unhide Menu option restores the menu bar. Keyboard Mapping and Layout for IBM ThinkPad -------------------------------------------- DynaComm/Elite now contains a new keyboard mapping and layout for the IBM ThinkPad notebook computers. The default keyboard mapping is based on IBM's PC3270 keyboard mapping. Support of Custom Printer Fonts for Printer Sessions ---------------------------------------------------- You can now select the printer for host generated print jobs. The Setup button found in the printer session window allows you to access the new settings. You can select the destination printer, font style, font size, and font spacing. You can also configure printing-to-disk. File Transfer Gauge now Displays Progress in 1024 Byte Increments ----------------------------------------------------------------- The file transfer progress window now represents the amount of the file transferred in kilobytes instead of bytes. For example, the window will contain "100K" instead of "100000" during a file transfer. Comments Field on Edit Transfer Batch Dialog -------------------------------------------- The dialog for the Batch Transfer utility now contains an additional Comments edit text box, when you have selected the CICS operating system in the Transfers dialog and are sending files to the remote system. The Comments edit text box allows you to associate control information with a file you are sending to the remote system, but such information is not required. The host places the control information into the first record of the host file. Other host transactions can then use the control information. PROFS Print Script ------------------ The new PROFSPRT.DCP script facilitates printing IBM PROFS notes and messages directly to the local or network Windows printer. The PPSETUP.DCP script allows you to configure whether PROFSPRT includes the location and label of the host screens it prints. Both scripts are in DynaComm/Elite’s DCP subdirectory. Direct Access to Online Script Reference ---------------------------------------- The DynaComm/Elite program group now contains an icon (or program item),which allows direct access to the Script Reference online help. Decimal Count Display for DISOSS File Transfer Progress ------------------------------------------------------- The format of the DISOSS or Office Vision file transfer progress gauge, displayed on the OIA during file transfers, is now decimal numbers instead of hexadecimal. Encryption of the AdaptSNA LAN Gateway Global Password ------------------------------------------------------ DynaComm/Elite now encrypts the global password, which DynaComm/Elite and NetSoft's AdaptSNA LAN Gateway exchange. The encryption enhances the security for sessions connecting to the gateways. In order to take advantage of the new feature, DynaComm/Elite must connect with version 4.43, or later, of the AdaptSNA LAN Gateway. This version of DynaComm/Elite maintains backwards compatibility with earlier versions of the gateway, but DynaComm/Elite will not exchanged encrypted passwords with earlier versions of the gateway. Selectable Session LUs for SNA Server Link ------------------------------------------- DynaComm/Elite now allows you to select an SNA Server LU, when DynaComm/Elite connects via a Microsoft SNA Server. A new drop-down list in the Session Profile dialog will display all display and printer session LUs assigned to the SNA Server. Earlier versions of DynaComm/Elite only allowed you to access the first two LUs assigned to you. Microsoft WOSA HLLAPI Support ----------------------------- This version of DynaComm/Elite adds support for Microsoft's WOSA (Windows Open System Architecture) HLLAPI. You can obtain documentation on WOSA HLLAPI from the Installation CD-ROM for Microsoft's SNA Server. Inclusion of Microsoft SNA Server Client Files ---------------------------------------------- The DynaComm/Elite Setup program now copies the Microsoft SNA Server Client Setup to the destination drive, when you have selected the Express option, or when you have chosen the SNA Server link in Custom installation. You can then instantly install the SNA Server Client files and connect to a Microsoft SNA Server. The version of Microsoft SNA Server Client, which ships with DynaComm/Elite, is version 2.11, re-released on 1-5-96. The same client ships with the SNA Server 2.11 Service Pack 1. Customizable Code Page Support for File Transfers ------------------------------------------------- DynaComm/Elite now allows you to customize Code Pages for the File Transfer utility. DynaComm/Elite supports three types of translation methods during a file transfer: Method 1: Default - DynaComm/Elite performs no translation and sends the file to the Host IND$FILE program as is. The file transfer does not use the Host or PC Code Pages. Method 2: Configured - You choose specific Host and PC Code Pages. DynaComm/Elite then translates the file prior to sending it to the Host IND$FILE program. Method 3: CUSTOM1.XLT - You create a translation file, and DynaComm/Elite then uses the translation file to convert the transferring file before sending it to the Host IND$FILE program. Ability to Add Scripts Directly to the Script Menu -------------------------------------------------- You can now append up to ten names of compiled scripts to DynaComm/Elite’s Script menu. To implement this feature, you add the following entry to the DE3270 section DYNACOMM.INI: Script#=[Path]FileName.DCT where '#' is a number between 1 to 10, inclusive; where ‘[Path]’ is the optional path to the script; and where FileName is the name of the script to execute. If you do not specify the path, the script must reside in DynaComm/Elite’s DCP directory. For example: [DE3270] Script1=FTBATCH.DCT Script2=C:\MYSCRIPT\SENDFILE.DCT After you edit DYNACOMM.INI and then launch DynaComm/Elite, the Script menu will contain the two new options. Selecting the options will execute the scripts. Script Engine Enhancements -------------------------- The following changes have been made to the DynaComm/Elite script engine: - SYSTEM function - 0x0950 Purpose Returns the path of an executing script. Usage If TEST.DCT is located in p:\netdrv\elite\, $path = system(0x0950) $path will contain "p:\netdrv\elite\". - WINDOW ATTACHMENT command Addition TOOLBAR FileType - where TOOLBAR is a keyword, and where FileType is a string variable containing the name of a toolbar file (a file with a BAR extension). Usage Window Attachment Toolbar "test.bar" This command attaches the toolbar file, TEST.BAR, to the default terminal window. - TRANSFERS Command Purpose The Recordformat parameter now has an additional type, DEFAULT. When you specify this type, DynaComm/Elite does not send any record format information to the remote system. 3. New DynaComm/Elite Options Available ======================================= Two new versions of DynaComm/Elite's add-on products will enhance the 3.61 version of DynaComm/Elite. The products are: * DynaComm/Elite Graphics Option for Windows Version 3.60 * DynaComm/Elite TN3270 Option Version 3.60 Please contact FutureSoft or NetSoft for information and pricing. 5. Using APPC with NetWare for SAA 2.0 ====================================== The APPC support modules, supplied with Novell's NetWare for SAA (NWSAA) 2.0 product, have a problem. When you attempt to activate an APPC link, the following error message may appear: [UPXUN-17] PU attach failed with return code f003 The following procedures will allow DynaComm/Elite APPC application to run via Novell's NetWare for SAA 2.0 server. 1. Install the new client software that comes with NWSAA 2.0. You can perform the installation from the server running NWSAA. 2. Patch the new installation with Novell’s patch files.
